Dance China Doll (2020 Remaster)

RTW Here it is - the very first EKS solo EP submitted to the market via 12” single despite the fact that none of these songs could be remotely positioned for club play of any kind. “Even Now” is a great LPD psych track given a minimal approach with added strong female vox by Lily Ak, and is probably the real classic here. But the promising “Dance of the China Dolls” has an awkward electro sound that just doesn’t work. Clearly Edward was withholding better tracks for the forthcoming Laugh LP. Favorite track: Even Now.

mattyg107 This is a happy and delightful release, but now the sound quality is pristine!! If you don't like glassy, tin sounding synths and a thick accented man mostly singing, partly crooning, some yelling while on the verge of breaking down well... What are you doing here?? :) Favorite track: Moments.

about

1984. A perfect number for a personal crisis. It's the year when I felt the ideas I had for The Dots were being tossed aside but, upon reflection, I was probably just being a bit of a prima donna. Even so, the situation led to this first collection of songs under my name. Recorded in 3 days , mixed in less than that, with wonderful vocal contributions from Lily Ak (who still sings like an angel). 1984. When the end of the year came, I moved to The Netherlands.

Thank you to Lily Ak for the lovely voice, Pat Birmingham who mixed, Mick Marshall who lent me his DX9 and Sally who provided the doll seen on the cover.
