RTW Anyone who cites a track other than “Hotel Blanc” as their favorite is lying! Seriously, this is a gothic and percussive beast of a record that sounds great, whether overblown like on the 2005 BLRR release or here in its original master where it sounds clearer but more confined. Many of the tracks are waltzes, but the sophisticated production of “Hotel Blanc” surpasses them all. It would become a rightful milestone and a recurring motif in Edward’s future work (solo and band) for years to come. Favorite track: Hotel Blanc.

thenewspaper I always had "Down in... H&Needles" on CD, which was fuzzy and sounded like old vinyl in places, so there is a real difference here. And the material has such mad joie d'vivre, it can't be missed. By accident "Down in..." and Tom Waits' "Rain Dogs" got put together in my laptop, alternating tracks in numerical order... it's a brilliant mix of sea chanteys, character pieces, monologues, and kling-klangerie. Favorite track: Six Cats On A Dead Man's Chest.

Anthony Jackson I think I purchased this along with Thin Blue Line from Auricular Records in SF in 1990. I played them both continually then and am happy to know the original tapes resurfaced.

Nine Lines of Crime Found this and Laugh in 85 and they were some of my all time favorite pieces of vinyl. I have been trying to replace them for the last 15 years! Thanks so much for making this available again!! <3 Joe Favorite track: Six Cats On A Dead Man's Chest.
Carl Howard

Carl Howard This was always a stellar collaboration between Ka-Spel and a storied Dutch electronic musician with a long career and an impressive catalogue to his name. Here we find Ka-Spel for the first time establishing themes he will revisit throughout the ensuing decades, and in ways the iteration of Legendary Pink Dots as it was then constructed would have been less than fully capable of elaborating with the same degree of success. Favorite track: Avengelist / God In A Cupboard.

about

This is a release following the transfer of the recently unearthed analogue master tapes of this record from 1985. Digital enhancement has been minimal and those close to this record will hear a marked difference with the cd master. "Eyes" is very much a collaborative album, made together with composer and sound wizard Hero Wouters whose contribution was utterly priceless. A big thank you has to go to Marylou who was responsible for introducing me to Hero, to Freek Kinkelaar who produced the tape and to Ray Steeg who hunted down the machine and the tools to make the dusty masters come alive again.
