RTW Sonically, this one is so adventurous, and listening to it is like eating a rich chocolate cake. You can tell that the days of EK's spare Casio waltzes were just about behind him. I think it's the use of percussion that truly sets it apart. Despite supposed plans for another volume after this, this was the last major China Doll release. After all, "Tszrnikowskiyarrh China Doll" just doesn't have a good ring to it. Favorite track: Hotel Rouge.

hjoe834 find it more accessible than the other 'dolls' works, but still pleasantly weird and psyched. Maybe I just get old... Favorite track: Dotzsong / Der Khataclimici.

thenewspaper Essential album, full of gongs and weird keyboard pieces sashaying under the mighty lyric vision here. Favorite track: Dotzsong / Der Khataclimici.

about

1988
A small untidy room in an Amsterdam squat. An 8-track tape recorder sits at the centre of the floor, the mixing desk was next to it. Wires everywhere. No chairs…Vocals were recorded in between trams. Nothing against trams, they are ecologically sound and sonically fascinating, until the 100th rattling clang of the day and the inevitable pause.
Despite all that Barry Gray (Stret Majest Alarme) turned the place into a palace with his stately guitar, and the desire to experiment was intense.
Even so, the best part was the mixing. A REAL studio in Aachen. Christoph Heemann and Achim Flamm from HNAS firing ideas to turn an already psychedelic record into a full-blown peyote ritual in the depths of the jungle.
Khataclimici China Doll - a damn fine way to end the 80s and a conclusion to the “Aazhyd” trilogy (which is in fact a pair).
Here is the 2021 Remaster - hopefully the ultimate version.
